Results of the International Student Contest “Microelectronic System Engineering – SERGIU RADAUTAN”

On Friday, May 21, 2021, from 9:30, online, the 10th International Student Contest “Microelectronic System Engineering – SERGIU RADAUTAN” -2021 was held. The contest was attended by 31 student teams from the Republic of Moldova (Technical University of Moldova; Center of Excellence in Energy Science and Electronics), Romania (Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Iasi; Transylvania University, Brasov; Cluj-Napoca Technical University), Ukraine (Vinnytsia National Technical University), and Belarus (Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics).

At the opening of the contest, the participants were greeted by the Rector of the Technical University of Moldova, Univ. Prof., Dr. Hab. Viorel BOSTAN; the President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Acad., Dr. Hab. Ion TIGHINEANU; the initiator and coordinator of the International Student Contest “Microelectronic System Engineering – SERGIU RADAUTAN”, Univ. Prof., Dr. Victor SONTEA; the President of the Association of Companies in the Electronics Industry of Moldova, Dr. Vitalie ESANU; the Dean of the Faculty of Computers, Information Technology, and Microelectronics, TUM, Conf. Univ., Dr. Dumitru CIORBA; the head of the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering, Univ. Prof., Dr. Hab. Oleg LUPAN.

The purpose of the Contest is improving students’ skills in developing applications in such spheres as microelectronic systems, robotics, microcontroller systems and applications, biomedical devices, etc., which includes students’ participation and direct involvement in the alternative educational process: initiative and practical application of their skills are more valuable than simply gaining knowledge.

The contest was held at the Technical University of Moldova, the Faculty of Computers, Information Technology, and Microelectronics, and the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering.

The current competition was supported by the Society of Graduates in Microelectronics of the Technical University of Moldova, the Moldavian Society of Biomedical Engineering, the Association of Companies in the Electronics Industry of Moldova, IM AROBS Software SRL, Mechatronics Innovation Center SRL, ÎTȘ Informbusiness SRL, DJV-Com SRL, Aproservice-X SRL, MobileSoft Solutions SRL, and LED Market SRL.

Sergiu Radautan (born June 17, 1926, Chisinau) was a scientist, a specialist in the field of physics and chemistry of semiconductor materials, the founder and the first rector of the Polytechnic Institute of Chisinau, currently the Technical University of Moldova. The TUM is the only technical higher education institution in the Republic of Moldova accredited by the state. Since it was founded in 1964, the university has prepared over 62000 engineers.

Academician Sergiu Radautan taught at the Chair of Microelectronics and Semiconductor Devices, currently the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering (DMBE). The DMBE provides the educational process according to the two study programs: Microelectronics and Nanotechnologies and Biomedical Engineering (cycles I and II) and 5 specialties of cycle III – doctoral studies.

The contest consisted of two stages: initially, the participants presented the projects verbally (using Power Point), for 5 minutes, after that, they demonstrated the functionality of the devices and their practical applications are a short video.

The Student Contest titled “Microelectronic System Engineering – SERGIU RADAUTAN” is a special event at the TUM and a perfect competition for future engineers to reveal their ingenuity, knowledge, and effort. It has already become a tradition!

The Department of MBE is waiting for students’ applications for to participation in the 11th contest.
