The fourth edition of the Moldova Electronics Forum 2025 highlighted key trends, challenges, and opportunities for the electronics industry in the Republic of Moldova. The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, representatives from academia, and investors to discuss the transformation of the electronics sector, technological innovation, and new business development opportunities in European markets.

The forum was opened by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Dorin Recean, who reiterated the Government’s commitment to supporting the development of the electronics industry—a sector increasingly relevant to the national economy.

Dorin Recean, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova:

“Moldova’s electronics industry is full of energy, potential, and ambition, and the Government is actively supporting its growth. We have expanded the eligible activities within IT parks to include applied research and development in electronics, and we continue to encourage investment in technical education. We want competitive companies, innovative technologies, and highly skilled professionals who can turn this industry into a driver of sustainable economic growth. The Moldova Electronics Forum serves as a platform for dialogue between the industry, academia, and authorities—where ideas take shape, partnerships are born, and the future direction of the country’s technological progress is charted. Innovation starts with skilled people and strong partnerships.”

Dorin Recean, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova

Viorica Crețu, Deputy Director, Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova:
“Moldova’s electronics sector continues to advance, despite the war in neighboring Ukraine and broader regional challenges. Moldova is positioning itself as a promising hub for electronics manufacturing, engineering, research and development, and nearshoring services. International companies operating here are expanding, increasing production, and investing in local sourcing, engineering, and R&D. This progress is also supported by Moldova’s competitive advantages, such as a skilled, flexible, and adaptable workforce, as well as a highly favorable geographic location for European nearshoring.”

Viorica Crețu, Deputy Director, Swiss Cooperation Office

Under the theme “Transformation. Innovation. Competitiveness,” the forum served as a platform for dialogue on how Moldovan companies can overcome challenges and turn crises into opportunities for innovation. Participants discussed how the Moldovan electronics industry can contribute to enhancing regional competitiveness and integrating into European value chains.

Throughout the event, attendees had the opportunity to explore the latest technological innovations and industry-applicable solutions, with direct access to domain experts and professionals. One key discussion focused on human capital development, exploring ways to train and attract a skilled workforce in an era of accelerated automation and the shift towards smart manufacturing.

Vitalie Eșanu, President of ACEM:

“This forum confirms that Moldova is steadily becoming a digital and industrial nation, with the electronics industry playing an increasingly important role in this transformation. This platform enables us to share experiences, address current challenges, and identify solutions for sector development. We must remember that Moldova was once recognized for the strength of its electronics industry in the former Soviet space. After a severe decline in the 1990s, the sector began to rebound thanks to local and international investor initiatives. Today, we have around 200 companies operating in this field, with over 90% of their production destined for export. Moldova’s electronics industry is not just reviving—it is becoming a key pillar of the national economy and a model of external competitiveness.”

Vitalie Eșanu, President of ACEM

Nicolai Rodimov, Deputy Director, Moldova Investment Agency:

“The Investment Agency supports this initiative because Moldova’s electronics industry has rapidly evolved—from promise to performance. In just a few years, our electronics sector has gone from a hopeful prospect to delivering real results. Today, we have internationally renowned companies investing in Moldova and, most importantly, a new generation of Moldovan engineers and technicians ready to build the future. Moldova may not be the largest market in Europe, but in the electronics industry, size doesn’t matter—speed and competence do. Moldova offers both. We are quicker in reforms, closer to the EU than ever before, and deeply committed to building a modern, competitive industrial base. We may not be the biggest market, but we offer what truly counts: speed, competence, and skilled people—the strategic resource of the future.”

Nicolai Rodimov, Deputy Director, Moldovan Investment Agency

The forum brought together the entire community involved in developing the electronics industry—from engineers, entrepreneurs, national and international companies to representatives of academia, educational institutions, and public authorities. Discussions covered global trends in electronics, digitalization, integration into European value chains, sustainability, the transition to smart manufacturing, and human capital development. The dialogue focused on identifying strategic partnerships, attracting investment, and strengthening the industry’s regional competitiveness.

As one of the most promising industrial sectors in the country, Moldova’s electronics industry includes 136 companies and 6 specialized educational institutions that train specialists according to industry standards and needs.

Opportunities in European Markets

One of the forum’s key themes was the expansion into European markets, highlighting the growing interest of the European Union in electronics products manufactured in Moldova. In recent years, exports to Europe have seen significant growth, placing Moldova in a favorable position to strengthen its regional presence through deeper integration into European supply and trade chains.

Access to the European market not only opens doors to a vast consumer base but also presents valuable opportunities for attracting investment and building long-term commercial partnerships.

Career Fair and Hackathon for Young Innovators

On May 14, young people passionate about technology and engineering will have the chance to explore career opportunities at the Career Fair, where they can engage directly with representatives from electronics companies. The organizers are preparing interactive activities, including a soldering iron contest, where participants can demonstrate their skills in assembling integrated circuits. Attendees will also be able to visit the laboratories of the Technical University of Moldova, the FabLab workshop, and the facilities of an international industrial design company.

On the same day, the Hackathon on Embedded Systems will take place, dedicated to young engineers and technologists. Participants will work on developing electronic prototypes and innovative solutions, with the best projects being awarded and presented to the community.
