Globally, in a time marked by rapid transitions, energy challenges, and continuous technological innovation, the electronics industry is solidifying its role as a pillar for sustainable development and economic adaptation to new realities. The Republic of Moldova is aligning with these dynamics, increasingly capitalizing on the opportunities offered by its proximity to the European Union and integration into international value chains.

Over the past decade, Moldova has made remarkable progress in economic, trade, and social areas, as reflected in growing exports to the European market, active participation in EU programs, and modernization of energy infrastructure. The opening of EU accession negotiations confirms this trajectory and provides new prospects for investment, stability, and prosperity.

According to recent statistics, there has been growing interest in essential electronics products across the European market. For example, EU imports of electrical wires and cables increased by 8.5% in 2023 compared to 2019; imports of transformers and static converters increased by 18.6%; and equipment for connecting electrical circuits increased by 6.7%. These trends confirm the potential of Moldova’s electronics sector to become increasingly integrated into European trade.

Furthermore, in 2023, the Moldovan Government approved the National Industrial Development Program 2024–2028, a strategic document developed by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization that defines the key directions and development vision for Moldova’s manufacturing industry over the medium term. Currently, Moldova’s industry is primarily characterized by the production of low value-added goods, with 13.5% of the workforce employed in the sector and a strong orientation toward the domestic market.

Real Opportunities for professionals, companies, and enthusiasts

Against this backdrop, on May 13th in Chișinău, Moldova Electronics Forum will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, academia, and investors to discuss current challenges, emerging opportunities, and innovative solutions shaping the future of Moldova’s electronics industry.

Now in its fourth edition, the 2025 Forum will take place under the theme “Transformation. Innovation. Competitiveness.” with a focus on how Moldovan companies can turn crisis into opportunities for innovation and contribute to strengthening regional competitiveness.

The Forum platform will provide participants with insights into trends, opportunities, and challenges in electronics, engineering, and related services, offering direct access to industry experts and professionals, networking sessions, case studies, and success stories. The event aims to foster the exchange of best practices, showcase the latest technological innovations, and promote applicable industrial solutions, thus helping Moldova solidify its position as a competitive, sustainable, and EU-oriented player in the regional electronics industry.

A special panel will teach participants how to effectively promote their businesses online, with inspirational discussions on how innovation can transform companies and enhance international market competitiveness. The panel will highlight real success stories, actionable digital strategies, and authentic experiences of entrepreneurs who have built thriving electronics businesses through modern technologies and innovative thinking.

A key moment of the Forum will be the panel dedicated to human capital development—a critical issue in the context of accelerating automation and the shift to smart manufacturing models in the digital industrial age. Discussions will bring together companies, educational institutions, and government representatives to explore concrete solutions for training, attracting, and retaining qualified talent. The goal is to foster long-term partnerships between the business and education sectors, aligned with the evolving needs of an industry in continuous transformation.

May 14 – Youth and Careers in Electronics

On May 14, under the umbrella of Moldova Electronics Forum, two major side events will take place:

  • Hackathon on Embedded Systems – The Challenge for Youth in Electronics
  • Engineering and Technology Career Fair, now in its 7th edition.

At the Career Fair, young people interested in engineering careers will interact directly with employers, review job opportunities, submit CVs for relevant positions, and receive real-time feedback and insights about labor market expectations.

During the Hackathon, participants will build electronic prototypes using microcontrollers, sensors, wireless communications, and hard-soft interfaces, guided by experienced mentors in embedded systems. The best projects will be awarded and presented to the community—offering young talents career-opening opportunities in Moldova’s electronics industry.

Over the years, the Moldova Electronics Forum has evolved into a strategic platform for stimulating investment, fostering international cooperation, and accelerating the development of Moldova’s electronics sector. The Forum aims to actively contribute to Moldova’s positioning as a trusted partner in the European electronics industry—an increasingly relevant and high-potential sector for the future economy.

The event is organized with the support of “Strong Businesses and Communities for Moldova” project, financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Swiss Government, implemented by GIZ Moldova.
